It’s Just Childish

It’s not totally surprising that a couple of years back, Community star Donald Glover embarked on a Twitter campaign to try to become the new Spider-Man before Andrew Garfield was awarded the role—after all, he’s got his own superhero alter ego. As the rapper Childish Gambino, he tackles everything from his upbringing, being hated on for being seen as “soft,” the Lower East Side, and, uh, Asian girls, on tracks with solid beats and almost-too-clever one-liners. He’ll be headlining Tuesday’s Celebrate Brooklyn benefit show as part of his Camp tour supporting his album of the same name. Detroit’s own Danny Brown opens; expect him to put on a not-messing-around performance of tracks like “Radio Song” and “Monopoly” from his breakthrough 2011 record XXX. Tickets are still available, but Celebrate Brooklyn benefit shows usually sell out, so don’t dawdle.
