Bob Gruen: Behind The Photos

By

If you’re a punk rocker and you don’t know who Don Letts and Bob Gruen are, then you might as well hang up your Doc Martens, shave off your mohawk, and re-enroll in Punk Rock 101—or catch Rock ‘n’ Roll Exposed: The Photography of Bob Gruen this Sunday at BAM. The new film from director Don Letts (who shot The Punk Rock Movie and founded Big Audio Dynamite with Mick Jones) tells the stories behind some of the most famous photos taken by Bob Gruen, who photographed everyone from John Lennon to Johnny Rotten. He played a pivotal role in the documentation of 1960s rock ‘n’ roll and the punk rock scene of the late 70’s, and Letts turns the camera on Gruen and his subjects to give us a behind-the-scenes look at rock history. This is one of the closing films of BAMcinemaFest and it’s free!
