Brooklyn is blessed with a star-studded group of writers-in-residence and some really phenomenal indie bookstores, and Brooklyn Bridge Park’s new outdoor literature series is dedicated to showcasing both. Books Beneath the Bridge kicks off six sessions of free readings, book signings, and author Q&A’s at Pier 1’s Granite Prospect each Monday at 7pm. On tap for tonight’s inaugural evening, Freebird Books is presenting Brian Francis Slattery, who will read from Lost Everything, his post-apocalyptic novel about a journey up the Susquehanna River, while accompanied by his acoustic band. If hearing celebrated local writers read and discuss their work against the backdrop of the Brooklyn Bridge on a gorgeous summer evening sounds as cool to you as it does to us, make sure to check out the full schedule of the series, which includes appearances from people like Patti Smith, Lizz Winstead, and Martin Amis, and plan ahead accordingly.
