All-Around All-Stars

By

If you’re like me and in total denial about the approaching end of summer, refuse to give up the ghost and head on over to the Rock Shop to catch the tail-end of the Gowanus All-Stars summer Monday night residency there. It’s like walking into a north-of-the-Mason-Dixon honky-tonk that’s heavy on good times, light on preciousness and nostalgia, and led by six of the most super-talented, super-chill alt-country and otherwise-hyphenated musicians in the NYC music scene. Performances run from open to close, so you can drift in and out of the main room without the guilt you’d get from stricter sets, but the music is energetic and dynamic enough to keep you going for as long as your stamina will allow. Also, because it IS still summer, why not head upstairs for a bit and order some food or drinks and sit outside on Rock Shop’s outdoor rooftop patio, because it’s totally awesome and you totally should. And if you’re looking for a breather before, after, or during the dog-days jamboree, one of the best local beer bars, Mission Dolores (a personal favorite of mine) is right next door with sophisticated suds, pinball, and even more outdoor seating. – V.R.
