Red Hook + Red Wine

By

It used to be that to get that Long Island-style wine tasting experience, you had to go to, well, Long Island. Thanks to the Red Hook Winery, that’s no longer true. The local vintners, who take locally-sourced grapes from vineyards in upstate New York and Long Island, process the wine themselves in their new facility located on the pier in Red Hook. Just recently, they’ve thrown open the doors to the public, offering tastings every weekend from noon to 4pm. $5 gets you three 1oz pours from the list of whatever’s open that day, which can range from blends to Pinot Blanc and Cabernet Franc; splurging for the $12 package gets you six pours, including special picks from their more exclusive list. And if you ask nicely, they might even give you a brief tour of the facilities. Let’s be real—after a trip to Fairway or IKEA, you definitely deserve it.
