Commemorating Guido Fawkes’ failed attempt to burn down the House of Parliament on November 5, 1605, Guy Fawkes’ Night has become a good excuse for pyrotechnic fun in England, complete with bonfires, fireworks, and burning effigies of Fawkes. On this side of the pond we’ve seen a few variations on the British tradition, but none involving a bonafide bonfire–until this year. This Monday, from 7 to 10 pm, Dear Bushwick is picking up the torch and setting a fire in the restaurant’s back garden, over which they’ll roast lamb, mussels, beer sausages, and bread (to dip in fondue). Add live tunes from the Baby Soda Jazz Band, Gunpowder Punch and hot chocolate with homemade bourbon marshmallows, and we’ve finally got a reason to thank Fawkes for committing treason.
