An Old Cemetery in an Urban Forest

By

From time to time, Allison Meier, our resident historian here at Brooklyn Based, leads cemetery tours around New York. This Sunday she’ll be at the Bayside Cemetery in Ozone Park, one of the oldest Jewish cemeteries in New York. The tour, which is organized by the Obscura Society NYC. The tour will focus on restoration efforts in the cemetery, which has suffered neglect and vandalism since the 1950s. The site is an overgrown urban forest, which sounds pretty interesting in its own right. Believe it or not, the weekend is supposed to be beautiful, so you may as well ride your bike to Queens and check out an obscure corner of New York City. Tickets, $18.
