The Pen and Performance Space are Mightier than the Storm

As heartbreaking as the effects of Superstorm Sandy continue to be, the support Brooklyn has shown for struggling communities has been one of the greatest displays of solidarity and compassion we’ve witnessed in recent memory. Tonight, there are two great events to choose from that help two neighborhoods hit hard by Sandy: Defiance: A Literary Benefit to Rebuild Red Hook is happening at Littlefield, and features some of the best (and brightest) NYC-area writers like Chuck Klosterman, Steve Earle, and one of our personal favorites, Sam Lipsyte, among many, many others. Tickets are $50, and 100% of the proceeds go to Restore Red Hook and the Red Hook Initiative, to help out families, businesses, and individuals. Help DUMBO Rebuild is a fundraiser to benefit DUMBO business and art spaces with a party and auction. Beneficiaries include kick-ass local businesses like One Girl Cookie and artistic endeavors like Galapagos Art Space. Tickets start at $25 and are available here.
