Miomia is one of our go-tos here at BB. We profiled the Williamsburg apothecary last year in a Dedicated email, and you can rely on Katie Chang, owner, to tell you the real deal about her carefully curated selection of skin care products, fragrances and cosmetics. In-house aesthetician Hillery Sklar is like a guardian angel for your complexion and her luxurious facials are the second best thing to vacation, in terms of their powers of rejuvenation and relaxation. Check out miomia’s gift guide on their recently revamped website, or take a look at these suggestions. Miomia is offering BB readers a special discount 10% discount through Dec. 31–enter the code “BrooklynBased” at check out for online purchases, and in-store just mention this post.
These brand new dopp kits from Brooklyn Bags ($45), a fabulous Brooklyn-based accessories line created by Aaron Sciandra, come in a variety of cool fabrics for men and women alike, and are available in-store only, not on miomia’s recently revamped website. They’re limited edition and exclusive to miomia, so you can’t buy them anywhere else. The one and only Simon Doonan (the main tastemaker at Barney’s) adores them, and has also personally endorsed them!
Chang says that Triumph & Disaster, a New Zealand-based men’s grooming line, is making the coolest products for men that she’s seen in years and their Stash Kit ($170) is no exception. She’s also stoked to be Triumph & Disaster’s first U.S. retailer. This handsome kit houses T&D’s Old Fashioned Shave Cream, Badger Hair Shave brush, Rock & Roll Suicide Face Scrub and Gameface Moisturizer. It’s such a handsome set, we can’t imagine any dude who wouldn’t love receiving this.
Every scent from Odin is absolutely swoonworthy. They’re lush, complex, sexy and downright gorgeous. Odin 08 Seylon ($165) is a brand-new sophisticated unisex scent from the New York-based company. Seylon is inspired by Sri Lanka and by the woodsy, grassy, smokey notes of vetiver.
The Natural, Sklar’s new organic facial ($110), features products from Osea, a miomia favorite. The luxurious, clean line is made from natural powerhouses like red algae and argan oil. It’s also vegan, making it a great option for beauty junkies who are looking for completely cruelty-free products and services. The Ocean Cleansing Mudd is a top seller for miomia–it’s an invigorating, deep-cleansing, icy-fresh pick me up for the face, but watch out, it is seriously addictive (and an amazing hangover cure, seriously).
The Dude is a 45-minute facial ($70) that focuses on deep cleansing (bottom line: extractions), since men’s pores are larger than women’s. Ursa Major, a really cool men’s grooming line from Vermont, is featured in the service. Ursa Major products bridge the gap between clinical and natural, resulting in simple, multi-tasking solutions that smell terrific to boot. Their Stellar Shave Cream won best shave cream in this year’s Esquire Magazine Grooming Awards, so it flies off the shelves shelves, and would make a great stocking stuffer.
