Keeping the Dream Alive

Martin Luther King Day means more than just another day off from work, so skip the inevitable Law & Order marathon and support Dr. King’s vision of nonviolence and a brighter future for children. You could march in the One Million Moms for Gun Control Rally (you don’t even have to to be a mom), which meets at 9:15 at Cadman Park Plaza and continues across the Brooklyn Bridge to the rally, where there will be a host of guest speakers and local officials. Alternatively, BAM is holding a free Tribute to Martin Luther King, Jr. in the Howard Gilman Opera House at 10:30am. The celebration of Dr. King’s life will include musical performances, a keynote address by Harry Belafonte, who was close friends with Dr. King, and a live simulcast of the presidential inauguration. Tickets will be handed out on a first come, first served basis beginning at 8am.
