Dive, Drink, Repeat

By

Little in life compares to a good dive bar, as frequent This American Life contributor Rosie Schaap well knows. In her memoir, Drinking with Men, Schaap explores the boozy brotherhood in bars she’s visited all over the world—from TriBeCa to Dublin and back to Brooklyn, where she still works behind one. Her book comes out this week and to celebrate, she’s doing a Q&A and signing event at WORD. Since the surrounding area is replete with dive bars, you can work your way to the reading by gaining a little experience in the field. Capture the elusive but stunningly beautiful weekday day-drunk at The Mark Bar for their ridiculously long, cheap happy hour (plus Tuesday is the Beer and Cheese edition, with free cheese on offer from 4-8 in addition their usual happy hour free pizza), experience the ultra divey, if-it-spilled-there-it-stayed-there Tommy’s Tavern, or visit our fave, Irene’s Capri Lounge, where the Rolling Rocks are cheap ($2), but the Jell-O shots are even cheaper ($1).
