If you think you’ve finally reached the point where you’ve seen and done everything there is to see and do in Brooklyn, there’s an event this week that we think might make you reconsider. Just in time for Valentine’s Day, a new installment of an incredibly old tradition is happening at Brooklyn Lyceum—the Contra Dance Party. The group putting on the shindig, Brooklyn Contra, is set on bringing back one of the oldest folk dancing forms in America, which they describe as what you’d get “if swing dancing and square dancing met at a bar.” You can bring a partner or come solo, and there’s even a workshop for beginners before the main event included in the ticket price. It’s a great way to have fun with someone you already know, or meet new people who are just as culturally adventurous as you. Novelty, nostalgia, and live musicians to boot? Swing us right on in!
