Back in December, we profiled a new startup company whose launch gave a boost to Brooklyn’s bereaved small businesses after Hurricane Sandy by allowing people near and far to buy and send gifts online from local spots like Red Hook favorites Hope & Anchor and Baked.

Yiftee threw a ton of good kharma toward the East Coast at a time it needed it most, and was handsomely rewarded for its efforts last week–it took home a top prize at South by Southwest’s Appy Awards.

Just when we thought award season was over, the Austin, Tex. based,  entertainment and tech showcase held its annual Appy Awards, which honors extraordinary mobile, social and web-based applications in various categories. Yiftee won an Appy for best Location or Place-based App–we figure it’s the techie equivalent of winning an Oscar for app design.
