A Bicycle Built by You

*Tonight’s (3/27) volunteer night is canceled, but mark it for future Wednesdays.* Hey Brooklyn cycling enthusiasts, are you all familiar with the amazing work being done by Recycle-A-Bicycle, a non-profit dedicated to refurbishing donated bikes and giving them back to NYC kids? Last year the organization accepted 1,200 donated bikes that would have otherwise ended up in landfills; taught hundreds of teenagers to refurbish them; and gave them back to community kids who participated in the Earn-A-Bike program or attend one of several Bike Bonanzas. Recycle-A-Bicycle’s mission simultaneously addresses a host of important issues facing the city–it’s good for the environment; it provides internships and job training for kids in the community; and it encourages exercise through programs like the Kids Ride Club. On Wednesdays, the Dumbo storefront holds a weekly volunteer night for anyone who is interested in helping out, meeting like-minded people and getting a free tutorial on the basics of bike mechanics.
