Easy Ridin’

By

The 1969 classic Easy Rider is a milestone in American filmmaking history. It’s a movie that represents the counterculture of the time, through the disillusionment of protagonists Billy and Captain America, as they burn through the streets on their motorcycles, from New Orleans to Los Angeles. This Friday and Saturday at midnight, Nitehawk will screen the film as part of its Karen Black retrospective series. Catch Jack Nicholson smoking weed on screen (for real); Toni Basil before it was a pity about Mickey; Phil Spector before his notorious gun-toting ways; Peter Fonda donning a Captain America leather jacket; Dennis Hopper 10 years before Apocalypse Now; and Karen Black in one of her earliest roles, in this classic that mesmerized audiences for years to come, shot by shot.
