Drinking for Dummies

By

For someone who can describe in painstaking detail a meal she ate in 1997, I am remarkably unable to contribute one iota of helpful information to a conversation about wine. After years of prompting eye rolls from the oenophiles in my life (taking a hasty swig of whatever bottle they presented and invariably proclaiming it “good” has not been a popular move), I’m thinking it’s high time I see what all the fuss is about. At the same time, I’m not really looking to spend an evening with Paul Giamatti’s character in Sideways, so the Wine Basics class this Friday at 12-turn-13 sounds just my speed. The class is part of theARTcorps’ Salon Selects series, which aims to connect art appreciators through fun events, and will cover topics like New World vs. Old World, grape varietals, aroma, color, the fermentation process and how to describe your own preferences. Tickets are $40 and include light hors d’oeuvres. —K.H.
