Mint Juleps All Day

By

It’s Derby Day this Saturday, so put on your fanciest hat and head to one of Brooklyn’s finest drinking institutions for mint juleps and ill-advised bets. The Bell House‘s annual party is notorious for filling up well before the derby begins; this year, $10 entry at the door gets you beer cheese, square dancing and prizes for best hat, as well as the traditional singing of My Old Kentucky Home. Sister bar Union Hall has its own (and free!) derby party, also featuring beer cheese as well as a cookout and corn-hole toss. Finally, if you’d prefer to stay north, Pete’s Candy Store is hosting a creative collection of diversions at their derby party, including the Idiot Stakes (where, they say, “even a loser becomes a winner”) and derby pie.
