A Libertine Loft Party

By

Underground opera might seem like an oxymoron for an art form that’s long been legitimized by mainstream musical purists–it doesn’t get more classical than Mozart–but a new collective of creative types is attempting to make opera less uppity by launching LoftOpera Thursday through Saturday at Gowanus Loft.  The high-low mix will include beers courtesy of Brooklyn Brewery and a performance of Don Giovanni, Mozart and Lorenzo Da Ponte’s tale of legendary ladies’ man Don Juan, which will be performed by a full cast and nearly full-size orchestra (though it’s been cut down to a more easily digestible 90 minutes). Get there early to secure seating, as it’s first come first served. The doors open and 8pm and the performance starts at 9pm. Tickets are $15 online or at the door.
