Loud and Proud

Brooklyn Pride Week goes out with a glittery bang  at the annual parade in Park Slope, starting at 7:30pm, but there’s still plenty of time to celebrate the LGBT community between now and then. Start early by cheering on runners in a 5k race in Prospect Park at 10am (enter at Bartel-Pritchard Square on the corner of Prospect Park West and 15th Street) before heading to the Pride Festival, which will be held in a new location along 5th Avenue between 3rd and 9th streets in lieu of its old location on Prospect Park West. Then, as the sun starts to set, make sure to snag a spot somewhere under the rainbow on 5th Ave. between Sterling Place and 9th Street to watch the parade go past (this year in a new direction). Borough President Mary Markowitz will reign supreme as Grand Marshal, and there’s plenty of places to grab a pre- or post-parade drink–Excelsior and Ginger’s in Park Slope, as well as Lowlands in Gowanus all have events in the works.
