Like many people who surrender 75 percent of their income just to live here, podcasts (and all their free, downloadable glory) have become an important part of my wifi-powered life. Podcast tapings are becoming the new version of being part of a TV studio audience—except way better because it feels like you’re eavesdropping on an awesome conversation, and you don’t have to wait in line for 10 hours somewhere in Burbank to do it. And though, yes, by this point even Burbankians have caught onto the podcast boom in comedy, the field for music-centric ones is surprisingly still wide open. One of the best ones, Going Off Track, will be doing a live recording at Union Hall, where they’ll have awesome guests like Jenny Owens Young, a favorite musician of mine, who might have written one of the sweetest sounding, but actually lyrically brutal, still funny-despite-the-sting breakup songs of all time. – VR
