A Film Fest of Homegrown Talent

BAMcinemaFest begins tonight, and while its opening screening is nearly sold out, you have 10 more days of hits from the festival circuit, including a number by Brooklyn auteurs. There are still seats left for Friday night’s screening of Crystal Fairya mescaline-fueled road trip movie with Michael Cera, who’ll be sticking around for a Q&A afterward; short films like the Rockaway Beach-set The Sun Thief, and a stoner rom-com about a Brooklyn couple, The Newlyweds, on June 28. Also screening that day, the Friday of Pride weekend, is Malcolm Ingram’s doc Continental, about New York’s legendary gay bath house in the basement of the n Hotel (with cabaret), told by regulars like Bette Midler (aka Bathhouse Betty), who performed there with Barry Manilow. Other hot tickets include Peaches Does Herselfan epic, autobiographical rock opera starring the electro-punk star followed by a live concert with her, and the outdoor screening of Drinking Buddies, co-presented by Rooftop Films, in the parking lot across from BAM.
