No, My Little Pony is not an 80s relic. Princess Celestia, Twilight Sparkle, Fluttershy and the gang (herd?) are are as rainbow-hued and sparkly as ever. For less glitter and more weird, check out the most compelling art opening in town right now–the My Little Pony Invitational at Champion Coffee. Twelve local artists, including Bjorn Copeland and Holly Coulis, received blank ponies–white with white manes–and complete creative freedom to turn them into works of art. The ponies will be unveiled at the show’s opening, from 6-8pm, with snacks and drinks. You can bid on these one-of-a-kind works (we hear that one is a pickled pony, á la Damien Hirst’s pickled shark, but smaller, cuter and not prone to slow disintegration) through July 18; bids start at $20. All proceeds will go to support arts programs at P.S. 132.
