Brooklyn will host a classical Indian dance festival for the first time, starting today through June 30 in downtown Brooklyn. The ornate costumes and choreography make Indian dance equally as fun to watch as it is to learn, and you’ll be able to do both throughout the week. One major highlight is this Saturday, June 29, when DanceFest INDIA! and the Kumble Theater for The Performing Arts present Sacred Vision, a classical Indian dance performance, featuring some of India’s finest dancers: Sujata Mohapatra, Savitha Sastry, Ayona Bhaduri, Prashant Shah and Ammr Vandal. Classical Indian and Odissi dance master classes are being hosted by Mark Morris Dance Group throughout the week, and special children’s programming is taking place at the Brooklyn Museum. A full list of activities can be found here, and tickets to Saturday’s performance are available here.
