Best Outdoor Concert

If, to you, Brooklyn summers are synonymous with juicy Nathan’s hot dogs, evening boardwalk strolls and white-knuckled rides on the Cyclone, head to Surf Avenue in Coney Island and check out another summer staple: the tireless 1970’s rock band Cheap Trick. The group that churned out sun-soaked anthems like I Want You to Want Me and Surrender kicks off the Marty Markowitz-approved, 35th-annual Seaside Summer Concerts series (at W. 21st Street & Surf Avenue, next to the Brooklyn Cyclones’ stadium) with a free show on tonight at 7:30pm. Bring a lawn chair (or rent one for $5) and some bug spray, but leave the cooler of ice cold ales at home; this is an all-ages show and adult beverages are off-limits. The whole family can settle in for a night of good, old-fashioned rock music, and, if the kids are lucky, maybe an evening ride on the Wonder Wheel. Looking for a show closer to home? We’ve got more concert picks here.
