One of my favorite summer traditions is back again this week: the Metropolitan Opera’s Summer Recital Series makes its annual stop in Brooklyn Bridge Park this Friday night. To me, there is no more pleasant way to spend a summer evening than to sit on that lawn with its glorious sunset view and be serenaded with a sampling of operatic masterworks. I’m not even a huge opera fan, but there is something about hearing expertly rendered performances of such emotional music in this dramatic setting that is legitimately perspective-altering. It also helps that it’s free and that my sneaky wine-drinking has so far escaped the notice of the authorities. This year, soprano Erin Morley, mezzo-soprano Isabel Leonard, and tenor Stephen Costello will be accompanied by pianist Bradley Moore. Grab a blanket and some friends and head down to kick off the weekend right. –KH
