The Good Festival by Local Roots NYC

Living up to its name, Local Roots NYC is throwing a festival in Bushwick on Sep. 7, with home-grown bands, booze and food related fun starting at 4:30pm. Photo: Local Roots NYC

Though there are plenty of words that could be used to describe a CSA (delicious being the first that comes to mind), cool isn’t usually at the top of the list. This Saturday, though, Local Roots NYC, a CSA that, frankly, knows how to party, is hosting the Good Festival at Brooklyn Fire Proof. Nine local bands are scheduled to play throughout the night, including headliners Shilpa Ray and Her Happy Hookers. Local chefs and artisans will be putting on cooking demos, including Fleisher’s, Anarchy in a Jar, The Chinese Takeout Cookbook’s Diana Kuan, and veggie burger master Lukas Volger. There will also be a food-related book swap (with any leftover books going to Housing Works.) Entry is $7, or $10 with an optional donation to CSA in the Classroom, Local Roots’ program to teach young people about local food. Bands and workshops begin at 5pm, but show up at 4:30pm for the start of the Barrier Brewery happy hour, with $4 pints as long as they last.
