Apologies for Our Earlier Post About Green-Wood Cemetery

By

On behalf of Atlas Obscura and the Green-Wood Cemetery, we’d like to apologize for a post earlier today about an upcoming tour and event at Green-Wood Cemetery. We’ve taken down the post because its tone was disrespectful of those interred at Green-Wood–a Brooklyn landmark and institution that we love–and their families. It incorrectly characterized the event as a party, rather than a reverent exploration of Green-Wood’s longstanding history and significance as an important New York City landmark and burial space. We encourage our readers to explore and appreciate the cemetery’s rich history, and perhaps even take a Sunday stroll on its beautiful grounds as 19th century New Yorkers were fond of doing, but with the proper respect for those for whom Green-Wood is a final resting place.
