I’m a sucker for an oyster happy hour and I’m here to tell you–not all $1 oysters are created equal. From 4pm to 7pm on weekdays at The Brooklyn Star though, you can have the best of all possible oyster happy hour worlds: $1 oysters plus a daily drink special for $6. No crowds, no waiting, no warmish, shell-flecked bivalves. Just briny oysters (there’s one variety an evening, but they’re consistently super high quality and delicious) and the Star’s addictive smoked mignonette, which adds an unexpected kick and pungency to your shellfish. If you go cocktail special a drink, a dozen oysters and a tip rings in at $20. I generally order my oysters with a bloody mary ($9), especially now that there’s a chill in the air. The Star’s version is perfectly spicy and nicely briny–a perfect match for oysters.
