This one goes out to all the fellas. Despite taking place in Manhattan, the annual New York City Beard and Mustache competition is one contest that sounds tailor-made for the men of Brooklyn. It is also an excuse to put down your shavers for the next few weeks, if the 30-degree weather we’ve been waking up to wasn’t incentive enough. The competition is taking place on Dec. 7 at Irving Plaza with all the proceeds going to the Badass Brooklyn Animal Rescue. Despite its title, the competition isn’t a big boy’s club–there are 11 different facial hair categories to compete in, including a Fake Realistic category for women, with trophies being awarded to the top three finalists in each. A raffle of everything from taxidermy animals to facial hair products ensures everyone, including clean-shaven spectators, has a chance to walk away a winner. This year’s judges include barber Michael Haar, drag queen extraordinaire Azraea Demands Equality, 2013 Beardsman of the Year Travis Oliver, lead singer of SIT and Die Mike McMahon.
