Even though she doesn’t spend any time onscreen, Scarlett Johansson manages to make a man fall in love with her in her new film, aptly titled Her. The man who succumbs to Johansson’s charm is Joaquin Phoenix–a Los Angelean disillusioned by love after his divorce who winds up falling for his artificially intelligent operating system that just so happens to sound like a sultry lounge singer with a sense of humor. The film is directed by Spike Jonze and Johansson is already drumming up critical buzz for her voice-over performance–despite the Golden Globes deciding she’s not eligible for an acting nomination. BAM is screening a sneak preview of the film on Dec. 9 for members. Jonze himself will be on hand to introduce the film. Tickets, as  you can imagine, sold out fast, but here’s a tip: BAM will be offering a limited number of stand-by only tickets the the day of the showing. The line for them starts at 7pm, so cinema club members should make a beeline to BAM after work.
