COVER-Katzs-Autobiography-of-a-Delicatessen-Bauer-and-Dean-PublishersDespite being an institution on the Lower East Side since 1888, Katz’s Delicatessen only just inked its first book deal–though we feel it was more a matter of the right publisher finally persuading its current owner Jake Dell to share his stories. Katz’s, as the 384 page tome is aptly titled, tells the story of the 125-year-old deli on Houston Street through photos by Baldomero Fernandez, as well as anecdotes from Dell–including the secret to Katz’s pickling process. Both Fernandez and Dell will be in Dumbo on Tuesday, Dec. 17, to discuss the deli’s special place in New York City’s history with Adam Krefman, publisher of Lucky Peach, at powerHouse Arena starting at 7pm.
