Stained glass windows, a bell tower and a visit to the crypt. If this sounds like your kind of afternoon, join the folks at Turnstile Tours for a rare look at Most Holy Trinity–St Mary’s Parish, the first German-speaking Catholic parish in the borough. (Yes, this is the same church Betty Smith wrote about in A Tree Grows in Brooklyn.) Led by Turnstile’s Cindy VandenBosch and Andrew Gustafson and the parish’s associate pastor, Father Timothy Dore, the tour will also focus on St. Nicholas and take curious minds to a rathskeller-like basement that contains decorative beer barrels. All tour proceeds will benefit the Trinity Human Service Center, a nonprofit organization that serves people in need in North Brooklyn. A second tour will be given on Jan. 5. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased here.
