NYC Greenmarkets Seek Winter Warriors

Winter Warrior Punch Cards

There have been August afternoons when the boisterous crowd of flowers, peaches, tomatoes and every green thing in the world at the Union Square Greenmarket has brought tears to my eyes because it was just so overwhelmingly alive and beautiful. That has never happened in January or February. Not matter how much you love kabocha squash, cabbage and brussels sprouts, this time of year in the Northeast can be a little rough on even the most stalwart veggie lover and greenmarket shopper.

GrowNYC knows that the winter markets can feel a little Soviet, so they’ve created this Winter Warrior card to reward winter greenmarket shoppers. Grab one at the GrowNYC tent, and they will stamp it for you every time you visit a greenmarket between now and March 31. After 10 stamps you get a prize. The prizes vary by market, but are all discounts or free items from farmers like a honey bear, bag of apples or other treat and the Union Square Market.

Here’s a list of all the markets participating in the Winter Warriors program (here’s the full list of markets open this winter):

Manhattan: West 97th Street Friday, East 82nd Street Saturday, West 79th Street Sunday, Abingdon Square Saturday, Columbia Thursday and Sunday, Dag Hammarskjold Plaza Wednesday, Inwood Saturday, Tompkins Square Park Sunday, Tribeca Saturday, Tucker Square Thursday & Saturday, Union Square Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday

Brooklyn: Brooklyn Borough Hall Saturday, Carroll Gardens Sunday, Cortelyou Sunday, Fort Greene Park Saturday, Grand Army Plaza Saturday, Greenpoint/McCarren Park Saturday
