For the past year, 61 Local has quietly payed host to some legendary musicians in the world of avant garde jazz. The series, called Snugs, is curated by Anabel Anderson, and as the name implies, the vibe is very intimate as solo, experimental musicians preside over audiences in 61 Local’s mezzanine on the first and last Sunday of every month.

Occasionally, a collective will step in, and that’s the case this Saturday when Snugs presents a rare, live performance of BassDrumBone. The trio has been together since the 70s and each musician–composer and percussionist Gerry Hemingway, bassist and composer Mark Helias, and composer and trombonist Ray Anderson–has serious chops, with combined performing credits including Anthony Braxton, John Cale, and Pocket Brass Band. Sets are at 8PM and 9:30PM, $15 per set/$25 for both.
