I didn’t exactly walk away with a green thumb from my experience as a community gardner last summer, but I’m having a change of heart about giving it another go this year, which is why I plan to make my way to Prospect Heights on Saturday for Brooklyn Botanic Garden’s Making Brooklyn Bloom. The annual event, now in its 33rd year, serves as a kickoff of sorts for the spring growing season. Informational talks, workshops and film screening about sustainable horticulture will take place throughout the day from 10am to 4pm for anyone interested in picking up new techniques and advice on how to get their garden to grow from local community gardeners, as well as BBG staffers and exhibitors from regional greening organizations. The event is free, and a full schedule can be found here. –JG
