Some might credit the Coen Brothers with reviving the Americana genre, but the Carolina Chocolate Drops have put the freshest face on old-time music. The African-American string band formed as a tribute to their 80-year-old teacher Joe Thompson, a black fiddler who bestowed them with enough skills on fiddle, banjo and jug to win the 2010 Best Traditional Folk Album Grammy for “Genuine Negro Jig.” The Carolina Chocolate Drops perform songs from their Grammy-winning album and their follow-up, “Leaving Eden” at a special, one-night only concert on April 10 at BAM. Iconic choreographer Twyla Tharp, together with the talented quartet, will premiere “Cornbread Duet,” a captivating dance work set to Carolina Chocolate Drops music and featuring New York City Ballet principals Tiler Peck and Robert Fairchild. Tickets start at $20.
