Nail Polish Swap Party at WORD

Nails-the story of the modern manicure 2If the story we did on Bushwick nail artist Fleury Rose–who Fast Company recently singled out as one of the 100 Most Creative People in Business–piqued your interest in polish, consider heading to WORD on June 3 because the bookstore is having a nail polish swap party in celebration of Suzanne E. Shapiro’s new book, Nails: The Story of the Modern Manicure. In it Shapiro explores the evolution of painted nails, looking at the history of the practice and postulating about its future relevance. Turns out the modern manicure has only been around for about 100 years, though its impact on pop culture makes nail varnish seem more inveterate than that. There’s a lot more to learn about polish than how to apply proper brush strokes. Bring along a bottle or two you no longer want, and trade them in for a new color while sipping wine and learning about new trends for your nails. Fun starts at 7pm.
