The Girl in the Road was an unexpected pleasure. Monica Byrne tells several utterly compelling stories in this novel–that of her two main characters, of the possible futures of India and Africa, and of possible technological advances that are both totally plausible and beautifully speculative. Trauma and wonder take turns moving the plot forward, but move forward it does and it carried me right along with it to the startling conclusion. —Jenn Northington, WORD Bookstore
