Snowmageddon didn’t bring us historic levels of snowfall and keep us trapped inside our apartments for days, but we definitely prepared ourselves for holing up with chili and hot drinks. If you stocked your bar in hopes of a snow day, put it to good use with some of our favorite bartenders’ winter-appropriate cocktails. The good news is, if you don’t have one of the ingredients on the list you won’t have to dig through a wall of snow to get to your liquor store. You could also see if your neighbor has some of the items below in their larder–you’ll be able to repay the favor with a delicious drink.
The Zellner–Royal Palms Shuffleboard Club
As we reported earlier this year, Tim Judge from the Royal Palms turned us on to coconut water as an alternate mixer base. Not only does it add a gentle sweetness, but it also helps keep you hydrated! Hangover prevention and skincare rolled into a delicious, spicy cocktail? We’ll take it. This is not temperature hot, but rather spicy hot–the ancho liqueur packs a lot of heat. It’s an ingredient you should invest in only if you like spicing up your tequila drinks–it’s delicious but very niche.
1 oz mezcal
.5 oz creole shrub, or any orange liqueur
.5 oz Ancho Reyes liqueur (ancho chile infused liqueur)
.5 oz simple syrup
.5 oz lemon
.5 oz lime
2 oz coconut water
Shake and strain over fresh ice in 16-ounce glass and garnish with lime.
