Rubin Block Party

By

Meditative isn’t the first word that comes to mind when you think block party, but the Rubin Museum’s version is more contemplative than your typical street fair. The Chelsea art center, dedicated to Tibetan art and the culture of India and the Himalayas, takes its creative programming to West 17th St. between 6th and 7th Aves. on Sunday between 1 and 4pm. The sonic lineup, inspired by its “World is Sound” exhibition, includes art-making activities for kids and kids at heart, live performances, and Tibetan musical instrument demos. Inside the museum–admission is free all day–you can take special tours and peace out inside sound meditation spaces.
