Opera, al fresco at The Met

For the ninth year in a row, The Metropolitan Opera is hosting its Summer HD Festival in Lincoln Center Plaza this Friday through September 4. Every night, there will be an enormous screen and 3,000 seats set up outside the opera house so that attendees can watch free outdoor broadcasts of live performances of Rigoletto, La Traviata, and other classic operas in HD. On Friday, the fest kicks off at 8pm with a special screening of Ingmar Bergman’s 1975 film version of Mozart’s The Magic Flute. Arrive early if you want a chair, but there should be plenty of standing room too if your dinner runs late.
