The bicentennial of the Erie Canal

Did you have any idea that we are celebrating the bicentennial of the Erie Canal this year? If you’re anything like me, that isn’t the only thing you don’t know about the culturally and historically significant canal, so if you want to learn more you might consider checking out The Heartland Passage Tour, a traveling performance event honoring the anniversary that is stopping at Red Hook’s Waterfront Barge Museum all day this Sunday. Fiddling duo Jay Ungar and Molly Madison will perform alongside musical troupe, and there will be a screening of a short documentary called Boom and Bust: America’s Journey on the Erie Canal. Tickets are $15.
