The National at Forest Hills

By

This summer, I was lucky enough to see several concerts at Forest Hills Stadium, including what would turn out to be one of the great Tom Petty’s final shows (ugh, still reeling from that news), and it quickly rocketed up my list of favorite venues in the area. There’s a lengthy subway commute involved, especially to and from Brooklyn, but it’s a relatively intimate spot to catch an outdoor performance, and they’ve done a great job figuring out concession and bathroom lines too. On Friday, The National is scheduled to perform in the converted former tennis arena along with opening act Daughter, and there are still tickets available starting at $40. If you caught the band’s 2014 run at in Prospect Park, you already know that an evening spent outdoors and punctuated by Matt Berninger’s intense, brooding vocals is worth a trek on the F train.
