Celebrating the program’s twenty second year, this Sunday the Socrates Sculpture Park unveils its Annual, a dynamic exhibition of 15 selected artists and fellows. The works will be politically-driven, to be sure. Artist Streshta Rit Premnath explores the monolithic power of disruptive world leaders in his piece Only One Way, which depicts the meeting of Donald Trump and the King of Saudi Arabia. Valerie Piraino’s A Year Around The Sun is a quietly effective piece–an overturned sailboat weathered by the elements–that calls out to the refugee crisis and migration across the Mediterranean Sea.
Visitors can also expect to see a small but mighty LCD screen sunset, the mythical Tower of Babel set in cast facial expressions, and a gargantuan head of a former President, rescued from Virginia’s now defunct Presidents Park.
The Socrates Annual opens on October 1, 2017. Socrates Sculpture Park is open everyday from 9am to sunset.
