Saturday presents two pretty enticing opportunities to eat amazing food and enjoy perfect September weather (fingers crossed!) in the Five Boro Pizza Challenge and the Mister Dips First Anniversary Block Party. Love pizza so much that you’re willing to travel AND have 1000% of your recommended daily calorie allotment be delivered in the form of hot-out-of-the-oven slices? Meet with similar-minded folk at Washington Square Park at 11am to receive your assignment: Each participant has to eat a slice at five pre-selected pizza purveyors, one in each borough of NYC, and car travel is not permitted. At the end of the day, there’s an after party in the Village and everyone who finishes the challenge will get a T-shirt and a medal. The first person or team to finish, however, will get a ton of cool additional prizes and some serious bragging rights. It costs $30 to register, with proceeds going to Transportation Alternatives, but note that you will need to cover your own pizza and travel expenses.
If that sounds like too much movement for your Saturday, you might want to consider heading over to The William Vale for carnival games, cornhole, face painting, slacklining, a raffle, and lots and lots of good eats provided by Mister Dips, Du’s Donuts and Coffee, and Pies‘n’Thighs at the first-ever Mister Dips Block Party from noon-5pm. Admission is free and this event is kid friendly, so bring everyone! Proceeds from food sales will benefit the Open Space Alliance for North Brooklyn.
