Axe Throwing and A Burning Ring of Fire

By

OK, so this might not be for everybody but I gotta say I’m intrigued by the idea of learning how to throw an axe without killing myself or an innocent bystander. Something about it sounds . . . cathartic? Anyway, I was unaware that Gowanus is home to New York’s first and only indoor axe throwing facility, Kick Axe, but it is and New York Adventure Club is sponsoring an intro to the sport there this Saturday from 6:15-7:45pm. Your $39 ticket covers instruction and access to unlimited axes to chuck; food and drink are available for purchase.

When that’s over, you’re just a hop skip and a jump away from Littlefield where, as they have for the past 13 years, Alex Battles & The Whisky Rebellion are throwing an annual birthday bash for the late, great Johnny Cash, complete with covers of his legendary hits. This year, which would have been The Man In Black’s 86th birthday, is also the 50th anniversary of the release of At Folsom Prison, so you can expect a special tribute to the iconic concert album. There will be two shows this year, at 8pm on Saturday and Sunday, and Linda Hill will be performing the June Carter duets at both. Tickets are $10, and just FYI, they have sold out every year since the event’s inception, so it’s recommended that you buy yours in advance.
