A conversation with ‘Census’ author Jesse Ball

By

Jesse Ball’s newest novel, Census, a hotly anticipated book by an award-winning author, is about a dying father wondering who will care for his disabled, adult son. He takes a job as a census taker and the two embark on a surreal journey across America, confronting their futures along the way. Ball explains in the preface that the book is a tribute to his own older brother, who had Down’s Syndrome and died at an early age, so there should be plenty to discuss when he appears at Books are Magic on Tuesday, March 6 with Kathleen Alcott.
