This past weekend I ventured to one of the happenings featured in our March Culture Essentials: The Orchid Show at the New York Botanical Gardens. There are lots of reasons to visit throughout the year, but given the month we’re having, with the cold and the snow that just won’t quit, spending time inside a humid, lush garden and getting up close to some of the most beautiful specimens of flowers on earth, installed sculpturally in places by artist Daniel Ost, was like a natural remedy for my winter fatigue (even as we officially enter spring). Head uptown on a Saturday for one of their “Orchid Evenings” from 6:30-9:30 (Tickets $38 for non-members, $28 for members). It will be a different scene, with specialty cocktails, refreshments, music and performances inside the conservatory, and the late start gives you time to stop at the Arthur Avenue Market for fresh mozz, heroes, and Peronis, before it closes at 5pm.
