This Saturday we get the double whammy of Cinco de Mayo and the Kentucky Derby, and though that is the best reason after Santacon to avoid Manhattan at all costs, there are lots of more low-key options if you feel like celebrating on this side of the East River. Threes Brewing, The Douglass, and Dinosaur BBQ will all be hosting Cinco de Derby parties, and Parklife (which is readymade for a Cinco party considering its on-site taqueria) is throwing a traditional one, so you can fashion yourself a pub crawl if you’re feeling up to it. Meanwhile The Bell House is hosting its annual Derby extravaganza, complete with pie and costume contests, starting at 1pm, Pete’s Candy Store in Williamsburg is hosting its annual bash, and the slightly intense but Mint Julep-filled Derby Party at Greenwood Park is back for another year starting at 4pm. Or, keep things simple and head to Sunset Park for your very own taco tour.
