Are Summer Fridays still a thing? If so, and if you happen to be the rare beneficiary of that coveted thing, head to DUMBO midday on Friday to catch the second of many live screenings of the World Cup 2018 during weekdays to come at the Sands Street Plaza. The screenings are free and you can have food delivered, so bring a blanket and settle in for Morocco vs Iran at 11am and Portugal vs Spain (the team I picked in my pool, FWIW) at 2pm. The US squad didn’t make the cut this time around, but that’s no reason you can’t embrace your inner soccer hooligan.
The rest of us working stiffs will have to wait until later in the day to be entertained for free outdoors, when the beloved annual tradition of the Philharmonic in the Park summer concert series hits Prospect Park at 8pm, followed by a fireworks display.
